First race of the season
Sunshine, not a cloud in the sky, very light breezes and flat water!
What more could be asked for the opening race of the 2009 season on March 7th? Seven boats made the line all looking pristine from their winter haul out.
Jay Hooper, Race Officer for the day managed to get in three races despite the difficult conditions although some of the downwind legs were excruciatingly painful!! Not as painful as the drift back to the mooring though!!
Place changes throughout all the races was the order of the day with Penny Simmons unable to dominate in his usual fashion. It was Jordy Walker who seemed to best understand the wind patterns, always pushing out to the left hand side of the course - and I think I exaggerate a fair bit in describing Saturday's fickle breezes as a 'wind' - but in the end he was unable to consolidate in more than one race.
From our exalted position at the back of the fleet it was difficult to determine the winner but I believe Penny Simmons took one race; Jordy Walker one race and Somers Kempe one race.............on the other hand Vrengen with Craig Davis & Solna with Patrick Cooper at the helm were also up there. What a way to start the season - let's hope we can keep it up!
